Sant Jordi is the nearest village to the airport and very close to the tourist area of Playa d’en Bossa and to the city. Visitors should not miss a visit to its majestic church, which is surrounded by a patio full of flowers and palm trees. This temple was built to meet the spiritual needs of the people working in Ses Salines salt ponds. It is believed to have been built before 1577, with oblique walls that stress the fact that it was used as hiding place whenever the pirates assaulted the village. The lateral chapels were inaugurated in the XVIII century, when the church was not used for defensive purposes anymore.
Just after crossing Sant Jordi on your way to the airport, you will find a horse racing venue, where second-hand objects, handicrafts and clothes are sold each Saturday in the Sant Jordi market. The village has several restaurants and shops and since it is located very near Ses Salines Natural Park, there are many unspoilt beaches nearby where you can enjoy the sea, such as Es Codolar, Sa Sal Rossa, Ses Salines and Es Cavallet.
